Following the traces of Sephardic tradition and the spirit of Sarajevo
located in the building of the former Great Synagogue "Il Kal grandi", built in 1581 and situated in the heart of Sarajevo's Old Town. This space, a cultural monument in itself, today preserves the centuries-long story of the presence, tradition, and contribution of Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The museum's exhibition includes religious artifacts, manuscripts, old books, documents, textiles, and everyday objects, and especially testifies to the persecutions and sufferings during World War II.
The Sarajevo Haggadah, one of the most valuable manuscripts in the world, is part of this rich Jewish heritage preserved in the National Museum, but the story of the spirituality, resilience, and culture of a community inextricably linked with Sarajevo continues through the Museum of Jews.
